Sarah, Typography Leading and Curling, 1st November

In this lesson we learnt how to understand the principles of justifying text, and looking at how it is used in InDesign. We looked at Widows and Orphans, paragraph breaks and understanding what they are. I realised all of this is important, this is just the beginning and I feel I have learnt so much already. By knowing all these types of skills, will enable me to build up my confidence.

  • Pick 2 designers from the lecture for Wednesday, pioneers of modern typography any period of time.
  • Whats interesting about them?
  • Where they from?
  • Widow – very short line, normally one word or the end of a hyphenated word, at the end of a paragraph or column.
  • Orphan – a single word, that appears at the beginning of a column or a page.
  • Always read context
  • Paragraph break
  • Point sizes and typefaces
  • Serif and sans serif
